Shri Jagannath Steels & Power CMD optimistic that India will have a massive demand for long steel

Prashant Ahluwalia, the chairman and managing director of Shri Jagannath Steels & Power Ltd, was recently honoured for his contributions to the mining and steel manufacturing industry at ET Inspiring Leaders East 2022. He speaks to us about his journey as an entrepreneur and industry pioneer.
Prashant said, “The iron ore mining and steel manufacturing industry in India is going through a very tumultuous but interesting phase. There was a time when the industry was more or less insulated from the world market but not anymore. Now our industry is more aligned with world markets. There is a certain push from manufacturers and miners towards achieving productivity on par with global peers, and I feel things are moving in the right direction. The pandemic has also changed the rules of the game, so consistent innovation and dynamism is the key.”
“We are in the process of putting up a Greenfield 2.4 MTPA pellet plant in Keonjhar district. We are also venturing into finished steel manufacturing with the commissioning of TMT bar rolling mills in both steel plants: Shri Jagannath Steels and Viraj. Given the current infrastructure push by the central government, we are sure India will have a massive demand for long steel, and we will be pleased to contribute towards fulfilling this. We are also scouting for suitable investment opportunities in a few other states, wherever the opportunity presents itself”, he added.
