According to a Semafor report, OpenAI secretly engaged hundreds of foreign contractors to educate its artificial intelligence in software engineering.
Some contractors from Latin America and Eastern Europe are said to have been hired in the previous six months, and they have been given the responsibility of producing data to teach AI to carry out easy software engineering tasks. The recruiting frenzy indicates that OpenAI is trying to develop the technology behind its existing product, Codex, which can translate natural language into usable code. This could result in the creation of a working substitute for some human coders.
