Meta & Jio Platforms to launch grocery shopping on WhatsApp in India

JioMart grocery shopping will soon be available on WhatsApp thanks to a partnership between Meta and Jio Platforms, which the companies claim is a first for the popular instant messaging platform. After starting to test an integration with a small group of users two years ago, Meta and JioMart have now launched the JioMart grocery shopping.

According to the firms, customers in India will be able to explore the complete JioMart grocery catalogue on WhatsApp, add products to their shopping carts, and make payments via the local payment network UPI without ever leaving the instant messaging service.

“Excited to launch our partnership with JioMart in India. This is our first-ever end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp — people can now buy groceries from JioMart right in a chat. Business messaging is an area with real momentum and chat-based experiences like this will be the go-to way people and businesses communicate in the years to come,” Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said in a statement.

The $221 billion Indian conglomerate is attempting to compete with Amazon and Flipkart in India with JioMart. Although Ambani’s Reliance Retail is the biggest retail chain in the nation, its e-commerce options are now restricted.

Zuckerberg, according to Ambani, shares his ambition for bringing more people and businesses online and creating “truly innovative solutions that will add convenience to the daily lives of every Indian.” “One example of an innovative customer experience that we are proud of developing is the first ever end-to-end shopping experience with JioMart on WhatsApp. The JioMart on WhatsApp experience furthers our commitment of enabling a simple and convenient way of online shopping to millions of Indians.”
