Google to stop spam backdoor for political groups

At the end of this month, Google intends to cease a trial programme that allowed some political campaign emails to get past Gmail’s spam filters. The internet giant allegedly launched the operation in September of last year in response to complaints from the Republican (a US political group) party about how its algorithms incorrectly flagged conservative fundraising emails as spam. Political candidates, party committees, and leadership political action committees are excluded from Google’s spam detection technologies under this policy, the report claims. A lawsuit against Google for purportedly holding a monopoly on items linked to digital advertising technology has been launched by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and eight states.
