Ashneer Grover, the former managing director and cofounder of BharatPe, as well as Madhuri Jain, the former head of controls and Grover’s wife, were all subpoenaed by the Delhi High Court on Thursday in connection with a lawsuit the fintech company had brought against them. The pair has been given two weeks by the court to submit a reply. A hearing on the subject is anticipated to begin in January.

BharatPe’s attorney criticised Grover and his wife Jain’s tweets during the court hearing on Thursday. The cofounder, according to the fintech company, has been waging a “vicious and venomous campaign” against it on the microblogging platform. Grover’s legal counsel countered that they were never served with a lawsuit.

According to a person who spoke to ET, BharatPe has filed a criminal complaint against Jain and Grover on 17 counts, including criminal breach of trust and financial embezzlement, as well as a civil lawsuit seeking Rs 80 crore in damages.

“BharatPe has filed civil and criminal complaints for several offences, including theft of corporate funds, against former co-founder and managing director Ashneer Grover, former head of controls Madhuri Jain Grover, and other related persons of their family. A BharatPe representative declared, “We have complete faith in the courts and authorities and are convinced that justice will be served.
