Amazon Seller Services filed a plea with the Delhi High Court to restrict private cable and DTH operators’ re-transmission of the ongoing cricket series between India and New Zealand via DD Sports. The petition was denied.
Justice Yashwant Varma, who was debating Amazon’s case, rejected the plea. Amazon has appealed the TDSAT order, arguing that the cricket match being televised by private participants via Prasar Bharti substantially reduced its exclusive media rights. Amazon Prime Video, which bought the exclusive media rights in order to draw in more cricket fans, is not anticipated to benefit favourably from the move.
