On Wednesday, August 17, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) fined Flipkart INR 1 lakh for selling substandard pressure cookers.
Nidhi Khare, the chief commissioner of the CCPA, issued an order directing Flipkart to recall all 598 substandard pressure cookers sold on its marketplace and give notice to any unhappy customers. The e-commerce behemoth was also required by the consumer protection regulator to pay impacted customers and provide a compliance report within 45 days. Due to the violation of consumer rights and disobedience of the Domestic Pressure Cooker (Quality Control) Order of 2021, a fine was issued. Flipkart reportedly made INR 1,84,263 from the sale of these pressure cookers, according to the CCPA. Flipkart cannot escape its “role and obligation” stemming from the sale to customers, according to the CCPA, by pointing to financial advantages from the sale of inferior pressure cookers.
