Twitter considers sale of usernames to generate revenue

Following a number of modifications made by Twitter’s controversial owner Elon Musk, who recently set a world record for the largest-ever loss of personal fortune, the company’s team has discussed selling usernames to generate cash. The New York Times reports that according to people with knowledge of the issue, the new initiative was investigated in an effort to revive the company’s operations. There have been discussions among Twitter employees about selling specific usernames through auctions where interested parties can submit bids. When the approach will go into effect and whether it will affect all usernames are still unknown. Last month, Musk said he wanted to deactivate inactive accounts to free up more than a billion usernames.
